Why Women?

Every day women and girls around the world face discrimination, poverty and violence because of their gender.

Those who are employed are paid less than men, more likely to work in vulnerable conditions, more likely to face harassment or violence in the workplace, and disproportionately expected to bear the burden of domestic labour. To that, we say:

Enough is enough.

Our partnership approach ensures that women have options—to be able to choose business ownership as the primary source of their livelihood; to be able to choose the type of business according to their interests, their skills and the needs of their communities; to be able to choose how they use their profits to best serve them.

A Right to Dignity

The lack of access to fair and decent employment that women face is one of the biggest causes of gender inequality worldwide.

That is why, at SHE, we are putting employment opportunities for women at the heart of our mission, through our local partners.

Creating Long-Lasting Change

We know that when women work, economies grow. It creates a positive ripple effect in their communities. It means better health, nutrition and education for their children, the next generation, with further benefits of reduced infant and child mortality rates.

For women to thrive socially and economically, it is crucial to involve men in the dialogue for change.

SHE’s local partners seek to educate men in their communities to understand their role in promoting gender equality in the world of work. They learn the value of challenging patriarchal structures and beliefs, growing alongside women.
