Supporting the financial independence of women everywhere.
One of our partners in Liberia, Camp for Peace, helps women develop vocational skills so they can become independent and earn their own money. Camp for Peace focuses on education as a way of alleviating poverty in places like Salah City, Liberia.
We spoke to Lorpu, one of the women who has benefitted from the programme launched by Camp for Peace and spent six months learning weaving techniques. Following training, she graduated and now has a business producing her own cloth.
“It really helped me a lot… having my own money and helping my husband makes it easier in our house. Now I make more money than my husband! Camp for Peace empowers me… It makes me feel proud of myself because I dropped out of high school and didn’t complete school. Sometimes I pass by those that were in my class. They graduated and they’re in their cars and I think now, even though I’m not in a car, I’ve got my own money and continue living. So I feel proud.”
Money in the pocket of mothers like Lorpu creates a positive cycle for the whole community. Earning her own money means she can send her children to school and get an education, so they will be self-sufficient too. Your donations have funded Camp for Peace to change lives in Salah City.
